High Park Fire *Colorado Wild Fire*

June 11, 2012

I am sitting in my office, distracted by dozens of passing fire trucks, circling helicopters, and wildlife running from the foothills. The High Park fire is burning only 8 miles away from our house.

The sight is unbelievable. Fort Collins is engulfed in smoke and looks as if the sun is constantly setting. Flames are easily visible from Horsetooth reservoir where helicopters are often surrounding & filling up tanks of water.

Robby and I had a powerful reminder of how important our job is. While watching the news last night and hearing from recent evacuees, the number one treasure that people grabbed before they left their home to the fate of a wildfire, was photographs. Frozen memories that cannot be replaced. I am glad to be reminded of the power of an image, and very honored that so many people have trusted us to capture their wedding day.

We are thankful to not be in immediate danger of the fire, but our hearts and prayers go out to our friends who have lost their homes. We are sad to see so much of our playground disappear.

THANK YOU FIRE FIGHTERS!!!

Oh my goodness hon – I feel so awful! I have been completely oblivious to anything going on in the last week or so and so when my mom asked me about the Fort Collins fire, I was like “Wait, what? My friend Karina lives there!!!!” So glad that you aren’t in immediate danger at this point, but am thinking of you and everyone there!
