Gender Reveal!

March 8, 2016

This was honestly one of the best nights of my life. Let me back track before the story.

I love celebrating. I love gifts and I love surprises. I used to be a little shy about this, but I am trying to embrace it πŸ™‚ Even cheesy Holidays and traditions are my jam.

So when we were deciding if we should find out the gender or not, several ideas and many people’s opinions came up. We decided we wanted to find out together and alone so that we could really savor the moment together. We were just going to have the doctor tell us the gender, but I told Rob I really wanted to celebrate it with just him. So we decided to have the Doctor put the gender in an envelope and Rob and I would find out at dinner. Sounded like a perfect plan to me, but sweet Rob had a different idea (knowing how much I wanted to celebrate this little moment for us).

The Ultrasound went great and the kind tech put a photo of the gender in a sealed envelope. When we went over to the Doctors side for the appointment, Rob secretly had the tech tell the office receptionist the gender so that she could text one of our friends the gender. I never knew any of this.

So we get home and have a few hours before dinner time. I asked Rob what he was craving for dinner, and he told me reservations have already been made for 7:30. I am sure my smile was embarrassingly huge considering I did not see this coming. We dress up and left the house for dinner with the sealed envelope in Robs pocket. We park at an incredible local restaurant we have never been to called ‘The Kitchen‘. This alone was far beyond my expectations.

When we sat down we both agreed we should wait for dessert to open the envelope, it just seemed appropriate πŸ™‚ We had an outrageously delicious dinner and savored every bite of this fancy meal. Then Rob asked for the desert menu. My heart started beating so fast knowing the moment was near and also that I had to choose a desert (I am pretty indecisive when it comes to ordering food).
The waitress showed us which deserts were gluten free, and we choose one. Then we sat and waited…
Expecting the desert, we were approached my the manager of the restaurant saying she believed there was a reason to celebrate tonight (I did not tell our waitress about the gender reveal). She smiled and pulled out a present from behind her back and places it in front of me. It has our names on it and is wrapped beautifully. I was so confused but so giddy. I started to open it and when I got to the box beneath the wrapping Rob placed his hand firmly on the lid. He told me this is it. This is the moment. I was still so confused but too excited to ask. We peeked under the lid and found a pair of baby shoes and colored confetti.
We laughed and teared up for joy about our new family. As if the night couldn’t get better, the staff at The Kitchen brought out a tray with all three gluten free deserts lined in appropriately colored candles. I cried again, but this time because a pregnant woman just got served three deserts! πŸ™‚

So sneaky rob went shopping the morning of our appointment and bought boy shoes and girl shoes. He got wrapping paper and everything needed to create this gift. He dropped off these presents with a good friend of ours who agreed to wrap the correct pair and drop them off at the restaurant for us. Rob told her she would get a text from a random number revealing what the gender was. He had also told the restaurant all of the details when he made the reservation.

And that is the story of how we found out we are having a baby girl πŸ™‚

A HUGE thank you to The Kitchen & Sunday Supply for spoiling us and celebrating with us!
